The fourth Symposium "Mathematics and Applications" 2013

We are pleased to announce the fourth Symposium "MATHEMATICS AND APPLICATIONS", national conference with international participation.

The event is organized by Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade and Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts - SASA and it will be held on 24th and 25th of May, 2013. This year, the Symposium is again the part of the project May Month of Mathematics (M3), supported by the Center for the Promotion of Science.

The two-day scientific meeting will be held in the premises of the SASA, Knez Mihailova 35 and the premises of Faculty of Mathematics, Studentski trg 16.

The official opening of the Symposium will be held on Friday 24th May at 10:30 at the premises of SASA. The opening will be followed by plenary lectures.

The Symposium will be continued on Saturday 25th May at the Faculty of Mathematics and it will be realized through three sections:

  • Mathematics and applications – today
  • Mathematics and informatics in education
  • Scientific research and professional work of students

This Symposium continues a series of successful national annual conferences and meetings organized by the Faculty of Mathematics. One of the main aims of this event is promotion of science and education in mathematics and informatics and their place in contemporary society.

We believe that this meeting will be interesting to scientists, professors, teachers, as well as to students and that it will serve as an impetus for the renovation of the existing and the acquisition and implementation of new knowledge.

We invite all interested participants, as well as guests, to fill in an electronic application form and send abstracts by April 28st 2013.

In each section, presentations should last 15 minutes approximately, followed by a short discussion where listeners are free to pose questions and give comments.

The official language of the Symposium is Serbian. Some talks may be given in English as well.

This year Faculty of Mathematics celebrates an important anniversary
- 140 years since the establishment of the first Department of Mathematics.
20th December 1873. The first Chair of Mathematics was founded on the
Natural Science Section of Faculty of Philosophy on "Velika škola".
